050 557 6166
I work as a speech therapist in primary healthcare and the private sector. I mainly work with adult clients who have difficulties in speech comprehension, planning, and production, voice problems, and swallowing difficulties. I have gained the most experience and training in assessing and rehabilitating swallowing difficulties, voice disorders, and problems with speech comprehension and production.
I strive to learn more by regularly participating in training, such as method-specific courses like Lee Silverman Voice Treatment and Oral Placement Therapy, Level 1. In speech therapy, I use drawing, writing key words, word lists, and pictures to support speech comprehension and production. I am also familiar with using augmentative and alternative communication methods, such as communication folders or apps on tablets.
Speech therapy can take place through clinic visits, at the client’s home, in a residential service unit, or via remote sessions. I find it rewarding to work in the client’s everyday environment, as speech therapy is at its best when it involves teamwork between the client, their close contacts, and the speech therapist. As a team, it is possible to jointly plan the client’s daily life outside of therapy to support rehabilitation as effectively as possible.
